Royal Academy of Engineering’s Liverpool Innovation Late

On Tuesday 4th November Maddison Coke, Mason Adshead, Kieran Ramaswami, Liam Wylie, and Nicholas Surtees attended the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Liverpool Innovation Late event.

Targeted at the general public (14 yrs +), the event aimed to raise the profile of engineering in a relaxed environment, encouraging curiosity and challenging people’s expectation and perceptions of what it means to be an engineer. The NAME team presented their home-made LED column demonstrating ion implantation as a method of nanoscale materials engineering, an engaging VR experience which explains how this is possible, and AFM touchboxes which act as a fun immersive demonstration of nanoscale materials characterisation.

The team had a great time explaining the work being done as part of the NAME programme, engaging with the members of the public, and discussing how the research that the programme is facilitating will impact the world from a technological and environmental standpoint.
